For the men in my life........Tammy walks for Breast Cancer

Rev. John Albert Hamersma
April 30, 1923 - June 21, 2002

Who ever would have thought...I would make such a committment as walking 60 miles in 72 hours? Not me...until now! And that is what I am doing this October 11-13, 2002.

As most of you know, my father-in-law was suffering with what started as breast cancer 10 years ago. After a short remission after having a complete mastectomy he has been on some form of chemo all this time. That cancer finally won him over and his recent passing now has made me even more determined to do something to try to end this disease.

Now, when ever you read anything that has to do with breast cancer the following word is always women....even thou they are the majority to this rule, you rarely would see that it happens to men as well.

So why would I want to do this?
I am doing this because
I am a best friend,
a daughter,
a wife,
a daughter-in-law,
but most important,
a mother
and I want to be aware.

My final message to all...if you have boobs, then you should be checking them monthly because 1,000,000 women in America are living with undetected breast cancer, and 1,500 men a year will come down with the disease.

My final question to all... Would you sponsor me if I told you that somewhere in the United States someone's sister, mother, aunt, very best friend, father or father-in-law, brother or uncle are diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes...and every 13 minutes breast cancer claims another life. Would it be worth it to help by supporting me with a donation? I sure hope so!

~~~With my love~~~
